IBBK Fachgruppe Biogas GmbH

With a masters degree as an Agricultural Biologist and as a trained farmer Michael is professionally involved in Biogas and Bioenergy Technology for more than 25 years.

His portfolio ranges from professional services as scientist and farmer in USA and South Africa, adult education, to being a founding member and CEO (1992 – 2000) in Europes biggest biogas association, the German Biogas Association.

Michael is a biogas technology and policy specialist with a broad expertise in the design and planning of decentralized agricultural and industrial biogas and bioenergy applications. Since 2000 he is consultant, senior expert, as well as managing director of the International Biogas and Bioenergy Center of Competence (IBBK Fachgruppe Biogas GmbH) and board member of the German Biogas and Bioenergy Society, GERBIO/FnBB e.V.. The main focus of his work is consulting and training work in the field of small scale decentralized biogas technology, plant oil for energy production, wood gas (gasification, pyrolysis) and ecological sanitation in a regional, national and international context. Current project locations are in Germany, Great Britain, Turkey, China, North- and South-America (Canada, Mexico, Chile).



Biogaskontor Köberle GmbH

Erwin is a diplom-engineer in mechanical engineering. In 1985 he founded a freelance engineering office for renewable energies , which has been transfered into an engineering limited liability company (GmbH in german) in 1999 with 9 employees now.

Designing and construction of biogas plants is one of his main tasks in his portfolio. Since 1985 more than 160 plants have been realized. In 1991 he was one of the founding members of the German Biogas Association, until 1995 he was chairman of the German Biogas Association.

From 1992 until 2008 he was speaker of the workshop for biogas safety within the German Biogas Association .

He is co-writer of the German safety regulations for biogas plants, published by the German Biogas Association.



Sebastian BAUMANN
Vertrieb/International Sales

Sebastian is working as a technical and commercial consultant of international customers and OEM´s for Schnell Motoren GmbH. His focus at sales in SCHNELL are:

- Commercial and technical check of quotations
- Tender preparation
- Sales of standard- and special solutions in back office
- Technical clarification of client-specific requirements

Senior consultant and head of product engineering and product management

Since 2007 Harald is senior consultant and head of product engineering and product management at Schaumann BioEnergy GmbH, Pinneberg, Germany.

In 1997 he got his degree in Geology (Dipl.-Geol.) and in Civil Engineering (Dipl.-Ing.) in 2004. In 2007 he completed his Doctorate in Food- and Biotechnology at University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna. Title: “Optimized digestion of energy crops and agricultural residues in rural biogas plants.”


Managing director

Anselm is a successful mechanical engineer and practical business economist with sound knowledge of biogas technology and many years of experience in management.

After many years of professional activity in responsible positions in mechanical engineering and automation technology, since 1994, he is partner and managing director of the engineering company INNOVAS GbR in Munich.

Anselm is responsible for sales, project development and project management of biogas, biodiesel and bioethanol plants but also for making feasibility studies, expertises and know-how transfer projects.

Katrin has a degree as an environmental and process engineer and is involved in biogas scince 2003.

She has worked on several EU-funded projects as a project manager, at KRIEG UND FISCHER she was responsible for conception and planning of anaerobic digestion plants with special focus on the dimensioning and engineering of pipeline systems for slurry and biogas. Since 2013 she is employed at IBBK as a biogas consultant expert and project leader for EU projects. Currently she is working on the projects S(P)EEDKITS and Bioenergy Farm II.


Dr. Melanie HECHT

Schaumann BioEnergy

She grew up near Cologne and took her degree in Biological Sciences and English Studies at the University of Bonn. After completing the in-service-training as a secondary school teacher (2005) she left the teaching profession for a PhD in Agricultural Sciences on process control optimization in anaerobic digestion plants (2008).

Dr. Hecht then joined full-supplier NQ-Anlagentechnik in southern Germany, where she was in charge of lab set-up, biological process control and start-up of AD plants (2008-2010).
She further intensified her experience in biological process control as head of sales at Bioreact, a supplier of biological consultancy and additives for AD plants (2010-2015).
Since January 2016 she has joined ranks with Schaumann BioEnergy as head of biological process control in Germany and liaison with the UK sales partner.


Dr. Eilert BALSSEN

Xylem Water Solutions Deutschland GmbH

Heis born on a cow and horse farm in Germany. He holds a Diploma and a Dr. Degree in Agriculture engineering.

For XYLEM’s brand FLYGT he is working since 1986. Starting as manager for Agriculture in the German subsidiary today he is global business manager for Biogas and Agriculture.

Eilert also is engaged in biogas and agricultural organizations. He is member of the board of companies of German Biogas Association and of the board of BFL – the organization for animal husbandry.
