  • Digester biology
  • Planning and designing of stirring and mixing technology for digesters, mixing pits and storage tanks

  • Process and external heat and gas engineering
  • Biogas specific building materials
  • Measurement and data recording for the optimization, stabilization and enhancement of the biogas process
  • Practical experiences and lessons from operating a bio-waste and food waste plant


  • Choosing the right substrate - Overview and its advantages and disadvantages
  • Laboratory session in the labs of the University of Hohenheim
  • 1/2-day field trip to the biogas plant of the University of Hohenheim "Unterer Lindenhof"


  • Introduction into design, planning and process engineering
  • Introduction into plant technology
  • Process requirements for the mono-digestion of chicken manure
  • Mechanical-biological treatment of municipal solid waste for recovery of resources and for bioenergy production


  • Proper usage of digestate as fertilizer in agriculture
  • Safety features of biogas plants and equipment
  • Co-generation to heat and power – gas utilization
  • Closing with a visit at the laboratories of the university
